st. andrews uniting church
project description
After the existing Church was tragically destroyed in a fire, SSA were engaged to design a new church for the congregation and local community. The previous church was a significant iconic building in the local area due to its striking form and was much used by the community both for church activities and by the wider community for social gatherings. The new church is designed to enhance and build on this history of community engagement. The plan form is derived from a pair of cupped hands holding the congregation, while also opening to the garden space and the wider community through the glazed end. The simple form of the floating curved roof allows ample daylight into the space and reinforces the curves in the plan.
