skyline house

space, light and a skyline

Designed to create an open plan house integrated with a large rear yard and swimming pool the bulk of the house is located in a tall form running along a laneway adjacent the southern boundary of the property, opening as much of the house as possible to east + north light and the large rear garden.

A stepped plan form creates a two + a half storey entry space and circulation zone which is topped with a long slot window allowing views of the surrounding skyline. This window has a zig-zag top line which creates the negative space of a mountain range in the sky, playing on the idea of view but inverting the normal undulating horizon within a square window frame. This form is repeated in the timber external screens and window shades.
