minnamurra road 2
Located on a gently sloping corner block this house responds to the location and opportunity of the site with an articulated, textured facade to the main street frontage and turns the corner to an open private garden on the secondary frontage. A combination of forms and materials steps down the main frontage culminating in the curved stone walls which create a rampart at the corner protecting the house from the street and turning the building form toward the garden. Further sculptural forms and textures are visible behind the street wall, including a woven timber screen which shades the entry and study glazing.
Once inside the perimeter wall the house opens into a large elevated living area facing toward the north-east with water views of Sailors Bay within Sydney Harbour. The swimming pool is located within a large terrace running from the rear around the eastern side of the house creating an outdoor entertaining area at the upper level of the house. A double storey bedroom wing within the curved stone walls holds two large bedroom suites while the balance of the bedrooms are located on the lower floor with a large living area opening out to the ground level north facing garden.
A palette of natural materials including stone, timber, steel and hand finished concrete combine with the landscaping design of native plants, gravels and areas of river rocks to create sophisticated yet natural character internally and externally.
